Time
When life becomes clear to you, you don’t have time for a lot of things. You have no time for drama, no time for petty games. No time for seeking validation, or hoping people will like you.
You don’t have time for work, or even time for leisure. These concepts only make sense in light of each other, and work is no longer part of your vocabulary.
You don’t have time for, frankly, anything that doesn’t seem interesting. Even if it makes you money, or somehow promises to pay off in the long run.
Everywhere you look, you see that no one truly knows the value of their time. Hence they say things like “time is money”.
They’ve become so ensnared by the world they don’t realize what they’re giving up to pursue it.
So they lose their sovereignty, they lose their freedom. Time gradually slips out of their hands, and into the hands of their masters. And they have many masters.
Perhaps one day, something will shake them free. Perhaps one day they will open their eyes, and wake up from their trance.
Then again, perhaps not.
